Fujian Association of Science and Technology(FAST)，hereinafter "the Association", is a local branch of China Association for Science and Technology(CAST) and a mass organization of science and technology workers in Fujian Province. It was established in January of 1962, and is developed from its predecessors of Fuzhou Branch of China Federation of National Natural Science Professional Institutes and the Science and Technology Popularization & Assistance Association of Fujian Province.
The permanent organ of the Association is the standing committee of its member congress of Fujian Province. The standing committee has three subordinate working committees and relevant offices and institutional units. Members of the standing committee are made up of forty famous experts and scholars. Its present Chairman is Mr. Wu Xintao, a wellknown scientist and academician of Fujian Physical Structure Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The Association is composed of natural science institutes, associations, research societies of provincial level and associations for science and technology from the counties and cities. Currently, there are 128 institutes, associations, research societies of provincial level, 94 associations for science and technology from districts, counties, cities, and associations for science and technology. There are over 300,000 members throughout the province, among whom 150,000 are of provincial level.
Aim of the Association：to safeguard the rights and interests of science and technology workers，and serve them wholeheartedly; to unite and organize science and technology workers of Fujian Province in boosting the prosperity and development of science and technology；to promote popularization and spread of science and technology; to accelerate the technical talents` growth and improvement.
Major Tasks of the Association:
(1) To carry out academic exchanges and further education，to compile and publish academic periodical.
(2) To popularize scientific knowledge and advanced technology，to establish friendly relations with science and technology workers，to carry out technology training, academic & technical exchanges and exchange activities among the youth.
(3) To provide consultation on decision-making and technical services for the economic construction and social development.
(4) To carry out international activities of science and technology exchanges, to develop friendly relations with foreign groups and individual workers of science and technology.
(5) To develop and strengthen the friendly relations with institutions of higher education, of scientific researches, relevant societies and science and technology workers, to carry out academic & technical exchanges and exchange activities among the youth.
(6) To reflect the suggestions and requests of science and technology workers to the government，to honor with prizes the science and technology workers who make great achievements in academic activities and science popularization.
(7) To serve the academic activities, science & technology popularization and science and technology workers. |
